Help with Deep Sky Object Finder for iPhone and iPad.
The sky map does not follow my device
- Tap Resume tracking if the map is in manual mode.
- Open the Settings app and verify that Deep Sky Object Finder has access to Location and Motion.
- Close and reopen the app after changing permissions.
The heading is inaccurate
- Move the device through a large figure-eight pattern to calibrate its compass.
- Remove magnetic cases, keyboard covers, mounts, or accessories.
- Move away from vehicles, metal furniture, speakers, computers, and other devices.
- Test outdoors where the device can obtain a reliable location and true-north heading.
Electronic compasses can be affected by nearby magnets and metal. The sky map is intended for general observing assistance and should not be used for navigation.
The camera view does not appear
Camera access is optional. In iOS or iPadOS Settings, open the entry for Deep Sky Object Finder and enable Camera access. Return to the app and tap the aperture button in the lower-left corner.
Searching and exploring manually
Open the menu to search for a star, planet, constellation, or deep-sky object. Dragging or zooming pauses automatic tracking so you can explore. Tap Resume tracking to return to the device's current heading and elevation.
